Here a few of those guidelines;
1. The breathability of the shoe.
A good indoor cycling shoe is one which allows for a good flow of air through your feet while training. Breathability is important because it helps to keep your feet cool and prevent excessive sweating in your feet which could result in disease-causing bacteria to form in your feet which could lead to foot diseases. To determine the breathability of a shoe, look at the design of the shoe to ensure that it is not too closed. Going with trusted brands such as Shimano will ensure that you choose is more than likely a good indoor cycling shoe.
2. Reason for use.
You should consider the reason why you want to buy an indoor cycling shoe. Is it so as to use it in an indoor cycling class or also to use it outdoors when cycling? This is important because some of these shoes are specifically designed to be used on a stationary bike and not outdoors. This is also because they are designed with protruding cleat systems which make it difficult to walk with them outdoors. So if you intend to use them outdoors, buy the ones without protruding cleats. But I would highly suggest you buy an indoor and outdoor cycling shoe separately.
3. Size of the shoe.
When you want to buy an indoor cycling shoe you will find that the range of sizes are very limited. This because they are designed with generic sizes to enable more people to fit on the shoes. This does not mean that you buy just any shoe without considering the size, you should buy one that is close in size to your actual foot size. If you buy from online retailers such as Amazon, you can return the shoe, if it does not fit you perfectly and get another one.
I have heard that generally you may find online retailers to be much cheaper than local shoe stores, so do shop around where you live and compare prices, and make your choice.
