Running Tips - Keep Racing/Running Notebooks

Most runners have heard that they should keep a running log - and I totally agree with that. But, what about running notebooks? This is something that I've been doing for years and they make great keepsakes and a history of your running. What are they? Read on to find out more.

Participating in road races is great for so many reasons. You test yourself and your training, you show your commitment to running and moving toward a goal, you may be running to raise money for a charity and then there just the social atmosphere of races. Whatever the reason, they're a lot of fun.

I love the keepsakes that you get from running. Depending on the size of the race, there may be race programs. I love these. There is information on the race and if there are any celebrity runners participating, there will be interviews with them. This is fun to look through - and I think a keeper.

And, then there is your race number - or bib. Some races are set up to put your name on your bib. If you register early enough, these are special to have. I love to keep my bibs - especially ones from special races such as marathons. And, I have a few bibs that are truly special. There are autographed my one of my running heroes! I can't imagine throwing these away.

Larger races will also have articles in the local newspaper the day before the race and after the race with results. If I'm lucky enough to place in my age group it's nice to have that newspaper. Some races will also send you a finisher's certificate.

So, then there's the problem of what to do with all of this. I started keeping running notebooks. I purchase a notebook for each year to keep my racing memorabilia. Each item goes into a clear sheet protector and then in the notebook. I keep one for each year. I keep them in order that I do the races in a year.

It's great fun to go back and look through these notebooks. I love reading the newspaper articles and programs. And, it's great to see how I did from race to race in those that I do every year. They are a great history of my racing. If you do more than a race or so a year, I recommend that you keep racing notebooks. I know that you'll enjoy going back through them years from now.
