Rocky Mountain Bikes Review

Rocky Mountain bikes are built tough and tested even tougher. The team at Rocky mountain bikes have the perfect testing grounds right in their own back yard in Canada.

Rocky mountain vertex 990 RSL

This is a review of the Rocky mountain bikes Vertex 990 RSL.

This is one of the top Carbon 29er hard tails cross country race mountain bike from the team at Rocky Mountain.

For a hard tail this bike is faster than a lot of others in this size range and style, it is a comfortable, compliant and more forgiving compared to other carbon 29ers that can be a bit harsh on the rider.

The geometry of the bike allows it to be a bit more fun and is great on the descents.

The ride

The descending properties of this bike is one of it's features, it is slack in the head angle, and not too long in the head tube making it easy to control and fun to ride, it has the capacity to run big tires, the tapered head tube makes it nice and stiff, and the 42x 12 rear-end with other stiffness enhancing measures gives the rider downhill confidence.

The consistency and reliability at holding the line and not getting bucked around like other hard tails making it a comfortable ride in most conditions.

The fork is a set and forget item allowing you to set the pressure at the start of the ride and not having to worry about again.

Tires

By popping the valves and adding sealant it is easy to convert over to tube-less tires, so you can run at a lower tire pressure and not have to worry about pinch flats as much.

Other Features

The Vertex 990 RSL comes with a complete Sram drive train. It runs a complete XO drive train, from the shifters through to the cranks and rear derailleur.

This makes it keeps it consistent, precise and reliable.

Frame

As with most Rocky Mountain Bikes the frame not only looks good but has a super low top tube almost like a dirt jumper in some ways, and it is a compact, light, sleek looking bike.

Apart from the rear brake cable all other cables are run internally within the frame down tube, which hides all the unsightly cables.

Target Rider

This is a great bike for a cross-country racer, marathon racer or someone who lives where the trails are nice and smooth as it is not really ideal as a trail bike.
