Tips for Buying a Women's Bicycle

When looking for the best bicycles from a women's perspective, it is important to focus on what your goal is when you purchase your bike.  First determine if you need highly functional bikes for city life or if perhaps you just want an electric bike to get you from one place to another.  Of course, you may also just be looking for an exercise bike for you and the kids.

For general riding and exercise mountain bicycles make a great choice that can typically be found at a cheap price. There are many types of mountain bikes such as free-ride, downhill, or cross country.  They are all very durable with sturdy frames and long lasting wheels.  The handlebars are designed to help a rider adjust to the bumps encountered in off road biking.

For simple functionality, the recumbent bike can not be beaten.  They are designed to resist wind gusts and to keep the rider comfortable by keep the rider in a supine position.  This type of bike is designed quite differently.  Most bikes use a diamond frame similar to the typical bikes you see kids riding in a neighborhood. The recumbent bike has the handlebars located just over the seat and towards the center of the vehicle.

Another style to consider are utility bicycles.  These are designed to travel on a major road usually meant for use in large cities that do not have convenient automobile access or that have huge amounts of traffic.  These are very sturdy vehicles that allow a great amount of flexibility and allow you to weave through traffic jams while other people are stuck in their cars.

When looking for functional women's bicycles for recreational use, you should avoid specialized bike styles like the utility bicycle, DMX, or BMX.  Some styles that are particularly attractive are the cruisers, mountain bike, beach cruiser, and any single spread bike.  Your local bike shop should have any of these bikes available and often will have cheap or discount stock for you to purchase.  Just as the sales representative what they have available and which bikes fall into your price range.
